Istra is the most northern and the largest peninsula on the Croatian Adriatic, bordering Friuli region of Italy. In Sylvis story begins in 2014, when Lara and Marko Zgrabić re- planted a vineyard on their old family estate. The estate stretches over three hectares, and the wine and other products are named In Sylvis (latin: In forests). The village in which they grew up and where the vineyard is located was named after the monastery that history remembers as Monasterium Sancti Petri in Sylvis (en. The Monastery of St. Petar in the Forests) - hence the name of the wines and products. More than 7000 vines of Istrian Malvasia, Teran, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon are planted on 2,1 hectares of land. The cultivation method is a traditional single Istrian guyot that gives grapes of high quality and controlled yields. This, in combination with the traditional cultivation method and Mediterranean climate provided by the vicinity of Lim Valley, results in a unique terroir of central Istria that characterizes In Sylvis wines. In addition to the grapevine, olives of Istrian Bjelica, fig-trees, and other fruits and vegetables are planted on the estate and use them to produce other products and foods served at the wine-tasting room.
